Solo Exhibition

24 April - 11 May 2024

This exhibition features three collections of new photographs in response to Mierle Laderman Ukeles’ MANIFESTO FOR MAINTENANCE ART,1969!

Intimacy, vulnerability and strength are evoked through the depiction of private family moments, the elevation of unseen labour and the ambiguous, complex and contradictory nature of the artist’s relationship to motherhood. The value placed on female attributes of appearance, beauty and desire and how they operate to create and subvert personal and collective identity is also explored.

A collaboration with Melbourne artist and writer, Simon Petkovich this collection of photographs respond to the aesthetic and rhythmic quality of Petkovich's poems by editing, rearranging, repurposing and juxtaposing images accrued over 20 years of photographic practice.

With an interest in the power of intuition, the works are meditations on the "infra-ordinary" - the non-event and the everyday.

Solo Exhibition

7 - 21 November 2017

The works as presented in this exhibition salute absence, missing and grief. A way to get over the pain of loss by wearing out the same story through sheer repetition: a video on loop. A kind of exorcism! An intimacy with absence. But as well, it offers a new way of representing presences or spirits. It is not that the figures have been removed but the symbols for the figures are there to say what the figures said – a kind of direct communion between the artist and the viewer, a touchstone of her reverence and devotion. Perhaps too, it is a distilling of moments filled with possibility, moments heard about but never directly experienced, a documenting of those moments, a personal response to the joy that was missed, a way to make it exist.
